Frequently asked questions

Can I make my commitment to Sawmill Collective a multi-year commitment?

Absolutely, membership levels can be extended as long as you would like and can be cancelled anytime.

What is NIL?

NIL, or Name, Image, and Likeness, allows college athletes to profit from their fame through social media, camps, appearances, and even charity work.  This right, established in 2021, opens up new opportunities for student-athletes.

What is the Sawmill Collective?
Sawmill Collective is Stephen F. Austin’s official NIL powerhouse. We leverage the power of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) to empower student-athletes across all sports.   Building on SFA’s legacy, our mission is three-pronged:
  • Stronger Communities: We connect fans, athletes, and supporters to create a united Lumberjack front.
  • Empowered Players: We unlock NIL opportunities for student-athletes, helping them build their brand and secure their future.
  • Lasting Success: We ensure SFA athletics continues its championship tradition.
Make a Difference, Your Way:  Join us as a philanthropic donor or a corporate sponsor. Every contribution, big or small, directly supports our athletes and fuels SFA Athletics’ rise to the top. Choose what aligns with you and be part of the Lumberjack legacy.
How much of my donation goes to Student-athletes?

100% of all donations go directly to student athletes less processing fees. The Sawmill Collective does not take any percentage of donations. We are comprised of proud alumni and volunteers who want to see SFA athletics succeed.

Are Donations Tax Deductible?

While the Sawmill Collective is a certified Texas non-profit corporation, we encourage you to consult your financial advisor regarding potential tax deductibility of donations.

What are the NCAA Rules Regarding NILs and Collectives?

A student-athlete may not receive NIL compensation based on his or her athletic performance. That would constitute “pay for play,” which is prohibited by NCAA rules. A donor may not provide NIL compensation to a high school recruit or transfer student in an effort to bring the student-athlete to Stephen F. Austin. Such inducements and extra benefits are prohibited by NCAA rules. Per NCAA rules, Stephen F. Austin is not associated with Sawmill 6th Man or any other NIL organization. Sawmill 6th Man works closely with Stephen F. Austin to keep the university informed of our procedures and progress.
